Mark led his Racine Horlick Boy's Volleyball team to a state championship in 2003, and was voted first team all state in 2005. He went on to UW Whitewater to play men's club volleyball, and made 2nd Team All American in 2012.  He is an accountant at US Bank and in his free time enjoys trying new restaurants around Milwaukee. He is looking forward to begin his club coaching experience with MVP!

Bruce Hoeppner's coaching style is to build from the basics then push the player beyond their comfort zone to new skills and achievement. Practices are fast-paced but require quality effort and multiple repetitions. Typically more than one ball is in play while using several areas of the gym. Many drills use progressions, where previous simple drills are sequenced to make game-like situations. Bruce also requires "quality reps" on non-practice days - keeping the player (and parent) involved daily which continuously improves their game.

Bruce’s favorite saying during practice is “see it, say it, do it”.

Ted Gollakner, 14 Blue Coach

Ted-

Our philosophy is to have fun, teach some life lessons, teach the meaning of success which comes in many different ways, getting a group of young ladies to play together as a team, play to their very best, and reach their ultimate potential while having fun!

Success is not defined on the scoreboard, at the end of the match we usually ask the team "did you give everything that you have?", if yes then you were successful. What we have learned is to be consistent in our behavior which creates respect and trust in our players, leading to a quality relationship!

Joel Golsteyn, 15 Blue Coach

Volleyball is a team sport that provides real character building opportunities for all that partake. My goal is to provide teaching and guidance to all my players and assign them with responsibilities for their personal development and the development of the team.  Personal accountability of these responsibilities is what allows for the most growth of my players both on and off the court. How each girls represents themselves, her team, her club and her family, are the most important factors of a successful player. Character leads to team chemistry, which leads to a successful team both on and off the court. My style is to provide instruction to each player regarding both individual skills and team concepts that are of equal importance. Girls on my teams will always know when they are doing something properly and also when they are not.

  • Southwest Milwaukee VBC  (2005 – 2016)
    • Qualified 6 times for the USAVB National tournament with teams at the 14 & 15 age division.

High School Volleyball (2009 - Present):

New Berlin West High School

  • 2009-2016 Varsity Coach

  • 3 straight Woodland Conference Division Titles

Greendale High School

  • 2015 – Present Varsity Assistant
  • 2015 Season Record: 44-4
  • Qualified for State Tournament for first time in 35 years

From early on we are taught that making mistakes are a bad thing. My goal is to teach that making mistakes are ok as long as we learn from them. With that knowledge, combined with hard work and repetitions, the volleyball players confidence can grow.

Communication is also a very important part of a successful team. I will help them understand that talking on the court will build team energy and trust between each other and talking off the court will build strong bonds between the players. Both of these are a must in order to build good team chemistry.

Girls Club Volleyball (2015-current):

  • 2015 coached at Southwest VCB 15-1's Assistant Coach

25 years of playing experience

For us, volleyball is our way of life. We truly devote our time and passion into the game, and believe that when you are this committed to something, the dedication shows.

As coaches we want to see all of our players master the things they can control, their effort, attitude and confidence, and strive to develop the skills with the goal of reaching their full potential.  We believe that is accomplished by working hard and pushing the players to expect success from themselves.  We preach playing aggressively and with confidence. Playing with confidence and eliminating fear allow players to reach new heights that they have been unable to reach before.

As coaches we want to see the girls improve their skills but most of all grow as a person. We believe that being a member of a team builds lifelong skills that translate off the court.

Lastly, we want everyone to enjoy themselves and have a great time.

JJ is not only passionate about the game; he truly understands the fundamentals and how important they are to how you perform in game play. JJ starts by focusing on breaking down the skills then progressing to the level of game play expected. Through the use of “game speed drills” players will be able to prepare for match play situations utilizing specific skills needed to win. On the court; passion, competitiveness, drive, hard work and most importantly playing as a “team” are a few key traits JJ looks for in his players.
